Overview
With so many nutrition apps out there, it can be hard to find the right one. My group and I worked together to find the best free fitness app to help you reach optimal health. We debated between Fooducate and myFitness Pal. Both are easy to use, beginner friendly, food tracking apps. Below is our complete review of both apps.
App Battle
Fooducate
We found it was very easy to navigate Fooducate; everything was laid out and organized nicely. The home screen consists of 5 tabs: Health Tracker, Food Finder, Community, Healthy Recipies, and Diet Tidbits. The Health Tracker tab is where you go to view your calorie count and nutrients from that day. Before anything is displayed there, however, you must enter the foods you’ve eaten that day which can be done in the Food Finder tab. The last three tabs serve as a community where users can share their fitness/health goals. Other features of the app include mood tracker, weight tracker, and calorie counter. Everything that came with the free version worked well and were easy to use. However, there were many other beneficial features that could only be accessed if you bought the pro version.

myFitness Pal
Just like Fooducate, myFitness Pal was very easy to use. All of your daily actions are conveniently located on the main screen. To input a meal you simply click “add food” under the desired time: breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack. There is also an option to track your water intake. Many features are included in the free version such as meal/calorie tracker, weight tracker, nutrients charts, add your own recipe feature, blog posts, and a myFitness Pal community. This app syncs with many other apps and devices as well. For example, if you own a Fitbit or most other fitness trackers, you are able to sync them to one another and the app will track the number of calories you burn and more. The one major drawback we found was the number of notifications this application sends out. This is only a minor detail however because you can easily turn off notifications via your phone settings.

Our Results
In the end, myFitness Pal is going to help you achieve your health goals the best. While they both have many of the same features, compared to Fooducate, myFitness Pal has more available in the free version. In the end, we came to the conclusion that what makes a nutrition app more appealing to the consumer is an easy layout and the most bang for your buck. Really, the only reason why myFitness Pal came out on top was because of how it was laid out and how many features you had to use. Besides that, the two apps were practically identical.
Skills Learned
Let me start by saying, wow. There are so many health apps available on the app store. Will so much information, it can be difficult to determine which is the best for you. Really, it doesn't take much to figure out which apps you like best. All it takes is a quick download and a walk-through of the app. If you don't like what you see, simply delete it. The main difference between health apps is the price. Collecting data from health apps and comparing them in a short video was not a hard task, but rather enjoyable. I could see myself doing more of these videos on my own time in the future.
